Landscape Manitoba

Landscape Manitoba is a trade association of nursery growers, greenhouse growers, garden centre operators, landscape contractors, sod growers, landscape maintenance contractors and suppliers of national and international products. Also includes active grower members, associate members, government and university horticultural personnel and academic members.

Landscape Manitoba's Objectives
The improvement and development of the many facets of the nursery, sod, landscaping, and maintenance industry in Manitoba.

Code of Ethics
The members of Landscape Manitoba (Manitoba Nursery Landscape Association) agree to:

  • Strive continually as individuals and through the association, to improve our industry and to avoid any practice which might bring discredit to our industry.
  • Comply with all municipal, provincial and federal laws.
  • Observe the by-laws of the Association and give of ourselves generously for the advancement of its objectives.
  • Comply with CNLA nursery stock specifications and other standards recognized by the association.

Mission Statement
To promote professionalism to industry members, and to promote the development of the industry through the ongoing support for industry research and education.

Landscape Manitoba Presents the 2009 Manitoba Green Show!
February 10-11th 2009 at the Victoria Inn, Winnipeg

Landscape Manitoba has a great show planned for 2009 with cutting-edge speakers, a New Product Showcase area, over 60 booths featuring exhibitors from across Canada and the US, the National Awards of Landscape Excellence, and much more!

Landscape Manitoba held a golf tournament on Wednesday August 27th at Kildonen Park Golf Course. We had great weather, over 40 players, and a number of sponsors that we would like to thank:

2008 Landscape Awards of Excellence Program

The 2007 Awards of Excellence reception, banquet, and live auction highlighted industries best and included a live auction that raised over $3500.00 for scholarships at Red River College. 

The ceremony featured 11 entries into the Landscape Construction categories, and also included three specialty awards. Awards of Merit went to Galay Landscape & Irrigation for “The Waverley Retirement Community” (Landscape Construction under $15,000), and to Alternative Landscaping Ltd. for “The Kindle Residence” (Landscape Construction Over $15,000). Awards of Excellence were presented to Lemkey Landscape Design for “The Henderson Residence” (Landscape Construction over $15,000), and to Swiss Alpine Landscaping for “The Regehr Residence” (Landscape Construction Over $15,000).  The Walter Shelmerdine Award was presented to Rick Durand, an Honorary Life Membership was presented to Jake Penner, and the first “Because Green Matters” award was presented to Mayor Sam Katz with the City of Winnipeg.  Landscape Manitoba would like to thank all companies who entered into the awards program, and congratulate all of our award winners for the 2007 year. 

Due to the success of the show and our awards program, Landscape Manitoba has been chosen to host the 2009 CNLA National Awards of Landscape Excellence.  This program will be run in conjunction with Landscape Manitoba’s 2008 awards of excellence at the 2009 show.  Landscape Manitoba looks forward to welcoming industry professionals from all over Canada and promises for a fantastic awards gala at the 2009 show!

Certified Horticultural Technician (CHT) Test Scheduled!
      
   

October 8-9, 2008, Red River College, Winnipeg

This year, Landscape Manitoba is holding it's first CHT evaluation.  This is a national designation, with international recognition.  You can achieve your CHT by successfully completing a series of written and hands-on tests.  Softscape Installation and Hardscape Installation will be tested this year.  Completing any one of the modules will earn you your CHT designation.

Apprenticeship Program - Certified Landscape Technician

To become a certified landscape technician in Manitoba, you must complete an apprenticeship that combines on-the-job (practical) experience and in-school (technical) training. To be an apprentice in this trade, you must be at least 16 years of age.   Click here for the brochure.

To become a certified horticultural technician, you must complete an apprenticeship that combines on-the-job (practical) experience and in-school (technical) training. First, find an employer who will apprentice you and sign an apprenticeship agreement. Then contact the Apprenticeship Branch to formalize your apprenticeship agreement with your employer. As you learn the skills of your trade, you are paid a wage that increases over the length of your apprenticeship.

Greenspace Management is a 30-month diploma program with an entry date in September. The program will focus on turfgrass management, design and construction of greenspace and recreational areas, equipment maintenance and operation, integrated pest management, irrigation system management, horticulture, arboriculture, computers, office management and strategic planning. It is a Co-operative education program, which integrates two six-month paid terms of employment with five terms of academic theory. Red River College offers co-operative education as part of its education strategy to enhance students' career training opportunities.

Members of CNLA and Landscape Ontario came together last week to grant...
Following an exhaustive search of many qualified candidates, the CNLA hiring committee (comprised of industry volunteers and staff) announced that the Landscape Sector Priorities Specialist has been hired as a part of the CNLA team.
CNLA brought members in from all over the country to participate in setting national priorities for the landscape sector in Canada. There were 45 members representing the landscape sector that started the day by discussing the issues that they face in their respective provinces.
The New Brunswick Community College's (NBCC) Woodstock campus has started a landscape blog.  Have a look at what they're doing!
